It’s funny how somebody can be right under your nose and yet you never notice their potential. I’ve known Sean (who works as a senior stylist at Genco) for a while now and it was only during a preliminary day spent spent shooting for the Genco Campaign that it ever occurred to me to photograph him.
Piercing looks
A lot of the time when I’m shooting models I’m asking them to do nothing – which is not as easy it sounds with a lens only inches from your face but Sean relaxed into it easily. In a lot of fashion shoots and other portraits it often seems as if the model is trying too hard, almost forcing their performance and it feels fake. And then you have “the naturals”. They just shoot piercing expressions back at you without even trying. For me, Sean definitely falls into that category.
Alternate shots
It was no surprise that a lot of Sean’s shots went on to form the core of the Genco January campaign. However, rather than show you more shots from that shoot, I thought I’d show you some of the photos taken the week before together with some other different edits. They were a little more edgier than what was needed but they definitely showcase his talent for modelling.
Watch this face. You saw him here first.
