My work is usually based in London with occasional editorial features in different countries, whilst also regularly working as a contributor to New York based photo agency Polaris Images. To date, my photos have been published in National Geographic Traveller, Rolling Stone, Der Spiegel, The Guardian amongst others. Award-wise I have had the good fortune to be nominated for the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 ANI Coup de Coeur award and selected asa finalist in both the Portrait Salon 2012 contest, 2013 and 2014 Renaissance Photography Prize2014 New York Photo Festival , 2015 Lightbox Photographic2015 International Color Awards and special award winner at the 2013 Art Of Photography Prize.

Likely many other london fashion photographers before me, my background is from another place: in this case, photojournalism. And after several years in, I’m coming to the belief that the same story-telling aesthetic and discipline of catching everything-in-one-frame is serving me well as a good apprenticeship for fashion photography. In a similar way,  the lighting considerations I run into my fashion work are now also feeding back into my photo journalistic work. -Judge for yourself by visiting my other web site markesper.com once you’re finished here.

“The brightest light makes the blackest mark.” ― Henry Holmes Smith (American abstract photography pioneer)

Those words aren on my mind pretty much all time during a shoot or an assignment. Whether it’s just a personal photo or a high-end fashion shoot with a big creative team I’m always trying to balance light in the service of story or atmosphere. The contents of this web site are just a small selection of my fashion and editorial work. Most of my fashion portfolio is high-end work, paid agency test shoots, portraits, head shots and look books. If you would like to discuss a project or review a larger portfolio of my work please get in touch with me at info@makoimages or through my contact page on this website.

Thanks for stopping by.
